In this episode, we explore Psalm 84 and the longing to be in the presence of God that it portrays. We discuss the beauty around us that reminds us of God's dwelling place and the deep desire expressed in the psalm to be in God's presence. We reflect on the brokenness of the world, which strengthens our longing. The psalms give voice to our hopes and difficulties when we struggle to find the words ourselves. We analyze the journey towards God's dwelling place and emphasize the importance of community in this journey. Being in God's presence means receiving something good from Him, and God longs for us to be in His presence. We call upon God in prayer, expressing our preference to be in His presence rather than dwell in wickedness. The pilgrim in the psalm seeks and prays for God's presence, yearning for the blessings and security it brings. They recognize that this journey can happen in their own heart and life, where they can talk to God and experience His presence every day.

Turning our attention to the biblical narrative in 1 Kings, we examine the characters of King Ahab and the prophet Elijah. Ahab's disobedience and idolatry led to a drought that affected the entire land, while Elijah fearlessly confronted him with a message from God.
We then shift our focus to the dramatic showdown between Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. The challenge is set - to call on their respective gods to ignite the wood on the altar without any physical aid. As the prophets of Baal fail to receive a response, Elijah rebuilds an old altar and drenches it in water before calling on the Lord.
In a breathtaking moment, the fire of God descends and consumes not only the sacrifice but also the stones, dust, and water. We reflect on the consuming fire as a symbol of God's power to burn away our sins, purify our hearts, and reveal Himself as the one true God.
As we discuss the impact of this consuming fire, we consider how the material possessions and concerns of life can also consume us if not kept in perspective. Just like the Israelites who fell on their faces and acknowledged the Lord as God when they witnessed His consuming fire, we too are reminded of the importance of surrendering to His all-consuming presence.

Today, we delve into Exodus, witnessing God's mercy as He rescues the Israelites despite their sins. Often, we complain about hardships, yet fear change. Like Moses, saved by compassion and chosen by God, we must heed His call. Remember, God doesn't seek the qualified; He qualifies the called. America faces challenges, mirroring ancient Israel. As hardships loom, ask: where is God calling you?

In the epochs between man's creation and the flood, spiritual fervor waned over generations. As time lapses, there's often a gap between initial forgiveness and full surrender to Christ; persecution often spurs church growth. The Israelites, once fervent, became complacent, drifting from their spiritual core. God's desire? For us to influence culture, not vice versa, turning even evil plans to blessings. The call? A return to profound unity with Him, reigniting that fervent relationship with Christ.

When people come together to worship, be sensitive to them and their needs because there's a broken heart in every pew. In such moments we may ask ourselves questions like why God? Why do bad things happen to me? What if we haven't sown those kinds of seed?
